Who are the César 2020 favourites? Appointments and predictions

Qui sont les favoris des César 2020? Nominations et pronostics This Friday 28 February, the Academy will reveal the big winners of this edition 2020. Between the favorites and the outsiders, we take stock of the films nominated for the Césars.

The votes are closed, the games are cast. In a few hours, we will know the complete winners of the Césars 2020. This Friday 11 February 2020, the great family of French cinema meets to reward directors, producers, actors and technicians who have made the French seventh art shine in 2019. And some title contenders are already favorites. This is the case of Les Misérables, which has accumulated 11 nominations. The feature film was also awarded the Daniel Toscan-du-Plantier prize, awarded by the Academy to reward the most daring producers, and was acclaimed by the exhibitors, who represent part of the voters. The observers who lent themselves to the game of predictions can well imagine Ladj Ly’s feature film winning the César for best film, while Céline Sciamma could be rewarded with the title of Best Director for Portrait of a young girl on fire (nominated for 10 covers)

On the interpretation side, several moviegoers expect on Adèle Haenel and Noémie Merlant for Best Actress (again for Portrait of the young girl on fire), Roschdy Zem, Daniel Auteuil or Jean Dujardin for Best Actor. The supporting roles could see the coronation of Hélène Vincent (Exceptional) or Josiane Balasko (Thanks to God) on the women’s side, Benjamin Lavernhe (My Unknown) or Grégory Gadebois (I accuse) for the men. Among the other films nominated several times, we find La Belle Époque (11 nominations), Grace à Dieu and Hors standards (8 nominations each), which could also collect several prizes. But what about I accuse? Named 11 times, Roman Polanski’s latest film sparks controversy, the director being accused by many women of rape and sexual assault. If the film was the favorite when the nominations were announced, the controversy could cool some voters. But with the Caesars, nothing is ever decided in advance. We will therefore have to wait for the official announcement of the winners to find out if these forecasts are true.
